Monthly Archives: April 2008

Well that is one Semi-final out of the way and I have to say the worst team managed to scrap through with an absolute beauty of a strike from Scholes.  Having watched Man Utd the last few games they look a team in serious trouble, producing very little goal threat while looking like they could concede at any point.  Thought the game last night was a joy to watch with some lovely football being played by Barcelona at times though they did lack a bit of cutting edge.  Messi in particular was outstanding and I would love to see him in the flesh.

Tonight sees Chelsea versus Liverpool and though I hope that Liverpool go through I think Chelsea will just edge it tonight 2-1.  I wouldn’t be shocked if extra time is needed but still think that Liverpool will miss out on a third final in 4 years.

In the NBA the Spurs finally seen off the challenge of the Suns and yet again Steve Nash and his team have come up short versus the Duncan lead Spurs.

Felt rubbish the whole weekend so spent it watching sport on the television.  Not really the most healthy thing to do but needless to say it was actually quite good fun.  Started off with Chelsea v Man U game and it was nice to see that Man U are still good losers.  Big Rio in particular lost it and should be pulled up by the FA though this is unlikely to happen since he is one of the golden children in England.  Can’t really see what their complaints were since I thought the ref had a good game and got all the major decisions right.

After spending the afternoon watching Soccer Saturday I progressed to watching the NFL draft.  Not really sport I guess but I enjoyed watching it anyway.  First off the board was Jake Long to Miami but everyone knew that.  Followed by Chris Long (Rams), Matt Ryan (Falcons), McFadden (Raiders) and Dorsey (Chiefs) all of this wasn’t much of a shock.  Though personally I think that the Raiders have blown it again by taking a player in a position they don’t neeDevin Thomasd and now don’t have enough cap room to get decent players in.

Teams that seemed to have had a good draft are Chiefs, Pats (again) and Redskins though it is hard to tell till you see some of these players on the field.  A picture of Devin Thomas the Redskins first pick of teh 2008 draft is on the left.

Sunday was more football, Old Firm game on the radio, Everton game on Sky and then I spent the evening following the draft on ESPN.

old petrol pumpWent to the petrol station today after school and it was officially crazy.  The queue was 5 deep at each pump and this might sound like an average day for the city people (country boy here) but for our neck of the woods it is crazy.  The think that upset me more than anything was the price of petrol.  108p for a litre that really is getting crazy though in Gala it is up to 110 and 121 for diesel which is even more worrying.  Needless to say that it was a Shell garage with the silly fuel prices.  It isn’t hard to see why Shell have such high profits.

Talking about companies that have silly profits I had to laugh that the RBS was struggling to raise money.  Is this the same company that have announced silly amount of profits for the last 10 years?  Can’t mind the exact amount they made last year but it certainly was a hell of alot of money.

Anyway rant over and I’m sure Grangemouth will not affect us all that much or rather I hope so since I can’t get the boy wonder to the child minders unless I have the car.  Though this could be a good thing since no child minder means no school!  Go Grangemouth!

I am so happy that it is Friday!  For some reason this week has felt like a lifetime.  Must be the first week back blues, hence the colour of the text.  Though I’m guessing that the fact that I was out last night didn’t help this morning.

The only good think about this term at school is I get to teach the S1 and S2 pupils some cool fun stuff rather than the boring things we have been doing all year.  Mainly I am keen to intorduce them to the Macromedia Suite which includes Firefox and Flash for people that haven’t heard of it before.

Anyway looking forward to the weekend since I don’t have anything planned which is a first for a few weekends.  Hopefully the weather will do me a favour and brighten up a bit but looking out the window I am gussing that there is little chance of that happening!

Anyway I better go off and plan my lessons for next week or next week will seriously stress me out.

Stirling was finally relegated from the 1st Division after losing on Tuesday the 8th of April to the youngest Partick Thistle team in history.  This pretty much sums up Stirling’s season since it has been their inability to score goals that has ultimately doomed them to the 2nd Division.

The start of the season looked so bright with McKenna scoring goals for fun but sadly after 7 games everything just seemed to stop working for the lad.   The most frustrating thing about this season has been seeing how poor some of the other teams in the division are.  Teams like Clyde, Morton (who might well be the new Gretna), Partick and Dunfermline have shocked me with how bad they are.  Dunfermline in particular has far too many players that simply aren’t trying.

The long job of rebuilding now starts for Stirling since many of the players will move on due to their high wages, well high for Stirling.  Though there is hope out there since Stirling has a fine central midfielder called Liam Corr who is the Scottish school boy’s captain.  Hopefully Liam will get a few games for Stirling the rest of the season and should be the lynchpin in the new looking midfield we will have for next year.

After two weeks holiday it was back to school yesterday and for some strange reason I was actually looking forward to it.  Needless to say my good spirits lasted all of ten minutes when I discovered that my computer was refusing to load and I was given a please take for period 1..  This is bad enough at the best of times but even worse when you are a computing teacher and the computer is linked up to your smart board.

The resulted in half the morning being spent tracking down the technician and trying to teach some simple flash without the use of a projector.  Though in bizarre fashion this actually seemed to make my lessons go a little better than usual.  My computer was eventually taken away around lunch time yesterday and it has still to reappear.  This will be my task after break, so yet another free period wasted chasing people down that I shouldn’t need to.

So overall it looks like today will be another day spent trying to make up small simple lessons that I can teach without using a projector or smart board.  You forget how much you rely on these things until you don’t have them!
